McNeil Point Hike – the long way

A hike up to McNeil Point starting at the Ramona Falls Parking lot. The purpose on this hike was both to get workout and I needed photos of the Sandy Glacier to see how much it had retreated. I have not done this route in many years so I was interested in what I might find. It was a lot longer and harder then I remembered.

The hike was hard but one of the most social hikes I have done. I talked to over 20 people and met a couple of new friends that I hiked the Bald Mt. to the climber route with on the way up. I also had the most embarrassing river crossing with a bear huge crawl on a log over the Sandy River.

By the numbers: about 20 miles with 4200 ft. total elevation gain and on trail for around 12 hours.

Wizard Way Trail

A hike up Wizard Way Trail at Mt. Hood Meadows. It was haze with smoke so no long distance views. Felt a bit off so did not get as high up as I wanted and moved slowly. But it still was a beautiful hike. By the GPS the hike was 10.3 miles long with an elevation gain of 2380 ft. and toping out at 7150 ft. My moving time was about 6 hours and 2 hour stopping. It was a slow day.

Zigzag Mt. Trail Hike

This was a new hike for me on the Zigzag Mt. Trail I went from the start of the trail to the where the fire lookout use to be. Trail for the most part was in good shape. I started out at about 1550 ft. and toped out at about 4500 ft. I had a little rain at the start but it clear and was dry the rest of the day. Only met three people all day so very lightly uses trail. Most of it is a walk in the wood the ridge line has some rock faces and cliff edges. Overall, just another hike in paradise.

Hike by the number 13 miles with 3580 ft, gain with 7.5 hours on the trail.
