White River to Timberline Hike

A hike with the Prime Timers from the White River Snow-Park to Timberline Lodge.

We followed a trail up the White River Cannon until we came to the Timberline Trail. We took the Timberline Trail up to where it joins with the PCT and continued on to Timberline Lodge. We tried to blend in with paying guess and had our lunch on the patio. Then it was time to head back on the PCT that we took until it crossed the Yellowjacket Trail. We took the unmaintained Yellowjacket trail back to the parking lot. By the GPS that hike was 8.3 miles long with 1900 Elevation Gain.

Cool Creek Trail

Cool Creek Trail is one of the steepest trails around Mt. Hood. The first two miles are noted for climbing a 1000 ft. per mile. It is mostly a walk in the woods with a few view points but it is a good one to see how your conditioning is coming along. The reward is the Devil Peak Lookout at the top. One of the last historic fire lookouts still around and open to the public.

By the numbers: 7 3/4 miles with a little over 3000 ft. elevation gain and on the trail for 6 hours.
