Cast Creek Trail Hike

Cast Creek Trail has become a trail to return to for me. It is basically a walk in the wood trail with some great views at the end. It is a good conditioning trail for the elevation you gain and because it is a horse trail it is an even up hill to it. It also has a subtle beauty to it as you pass through woodland. This time I made it up to the summit of East Zigzag Mt. and had a chance to walk around Cast Lake. By the numbers: 14 1/2 miles, Total Elevation Gain 3965 ft. and 8 hrs. 15 min. on the trail,

Nick Eaton to Deadwood Hike

This conditioning hike uses several trail to make a lollypop loop. I started out at the Herman Creek trailhead at about 200 ft and took this trail to the Nick Eaton Trail. I then climbed up the Nick Eaton Trail to the first summit spot at about 3200 ft. From here I continued along the ridge trail to the Deadwood trail cut off and follow it down to the Gordon Creek Trail. I spent a little time looking for the old Deadwood camp site but it appears to have been wiped it out in the burn. I then headed back on Gordon Creek trail to rejoin the Herman Creek trail and return to my car. It was about 9.5 miles, 3000 elevation gain and on the trail for about 6 hours.

Newell Creek Canyon Park

Jeanette and Sylvia were travelling this Tuesday so Lori and I decide to do a short exploratory hike a new Metro Nature Park of Newell Creek Canyon Park in Oregon City. We did 3.5 mile along well cared for trails. The area was mostly made up of recovering forest with lots of understory greenery. The trail system was set up with some mix use, hikers only and bikers only trails. Afterwards we check out retro Mike’s Drive In for lunch.
