Sometime you don’t get the hike you planned for but you enjoy the hike you get. The forecast was for sun with some clouds and no rain. What I got was starting in rain and a cloudy day. I also found snow at the higher levels. So ended up cutting my hike short and did not go on the ZigZag Mt. I also had plan on cold dry and was prepared for that but ended up up having to use my emergency poncho for the rain. First time to use and poncho on trail and it worked pretty good. The hike was around 12 mile with 3000 ft. elevation gain and on the trail for 7 hours.
Horseshoe Ridge Trail Loop Hike
Filling in one of the last trails on Zigzag Mt. ridge I did a hike of going up Horseshoe Ridge Trail, transversing on Zigzag Trail and connectors and going down on Cast Creek Trail. The hike was 15.5 miles with 3700 ft. total elevation gain and on the trail for 9.5 hours. At the start I had do a wading crossing of Lost Creek.

Cast Creek Trail Hike
Cast Creek Trail has become a trail to return to for me. It is basically a walk in the wood trail with some great views at the end. It is a good conditioning trail for the elevation you gain and because it is a horse trail it is an even up hill to it. It also has a subtle beauty to it as you pass through woodland. This time I made it up to the summit of East Zigzag Mt. and had a chance to walk around Cast Lake. By the numbers: 14 1/2 miles, Total Elevation Gain 3965 ft. and 8 hrs. 15 min. on the trail,
